Mangalore, July 30

The Karnataka Government has been urged to notify the Mangalore Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) yard at Baikampady to carry out business activities in the yard.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr Krishnaraja Hegde, President of the APMC, said that the Government should de-notify the yard at Bunder area in Mangalore and notify the one at Baikampady .

At present, most of the business activities are taking place in Bunder region. Built at a cost of Rs 30 crore, the APMC yard at Baikampady is spread over 85.58 acres of land. Though a proposal to de-notify Bunder region was sent to the Government in 2001, steps are yet to be initiated, he said. The APMC Secretary, Mr Sathish Kumar, said that 21 godowns at the Baikampady yard have been allotted on ownership basis and 21 more on monthly rental basis. Of the 330 sites at the yard, 246 have been allotted, he added.
