Centre releases 1 lt maize for poultry farmers

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , July 30

The Tamil Nadu poultry farmers stand to draw 25,000 tonnes of maize from Food Corporation of India at an issue price of Rs 550 per quintal.

This is part of the one lakh tonnes of maize released by the Union Government to be distributed immediately to the poultry farmers to tide over the high price situation.

Of this, 50,000 tonnes will go to the poultry farmers in Andhra Pradesh and another 25,000 tonnes to Maharashtra, according to Mr Valsan, Secretary, All-India Poultry Products Exporters Association.

The release of one lakh tonnes is over and above the 4.5 lakh tonnes already approved by the Centre for distribution to the poultry sector through the tender route. According to Mr Valsan, the maize will be routed through the animal husbandry departments in the respective States and at a provisional price of Rs 550 per quintal.

The State-wise cut off rates obtained in the tender enquiries would be the final applicable price for the one lakh tonnes. FCI will adjust the difference between the provisional price and the cut-off rates when finalised with the respective animal husbandry department of the States concerned.
