Exports & Imports Software, services exports up 32 pc Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug 6 Software and service exports are estimated to have touched Rs 29,500 crore during the first quarter ended June. According to the data compiled by the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), the exports grew 32.29 per cent over the corresponding previous period. As per the ESC'c projections for 2006-07, export of software and services will surge to Rs 1,40,000 crore from Rs 1,05,000 crore last year, registering a growth of 33 per cent. Mr D.K. Sareen, Executive Director of ESC, said: "In the first quarter itself, 21.07 per cent of the target has been achieved and going by the pace of growth, the target will be achieved comfortably." According to the ESC data, exports of computer hardware stood at Rs 2,000 crore for the quarter, up 25 per cent. This is expected to touch Rs 11,500 crore during the year. Mr Sareen also said that hardware exports were reckoned to grow at 19 per cent for the year.
