Chennai, Aug. 8

Imports of wheat have begun to gather steam with over 1.5 lakh tonnes being discharged at various ports currently. While 62,000 tonnes of wheat, part of the second tender contracted from AWB by STC, is being offloaded at Mundra port in Gujarat, three other ships are discharging consignments at Visakhapatnam and Tuticorin ports.

Two of these are part of the first five lakh tonnes contracted by STC from AWB. MV Energy Ranger carrying 37,300 tonnes berthed in Visakhapatnam on Monday. In Tuticorin, MV Split has discharged part of its 39,300 tonnes consignment from Australia and is expected to set sail from there on August 14. Another ship, MV Tiarella, has brought 25,000 tonnes of wheat contracted by a private trader.
