New Projects Tata Auto Plastics to invest Rs 100 cr in expansion Mayur N. Shah
Mumbai , Aug. 8 Tata Auto Plastics (TAPS), a division of the TACO group that makes plastic body parts and components, plans to invest Rs 100 crore in product expansion across its plants in Pune, Bangalore and Baroda. The company will be doubling its production capacity at its Hinjewadi and Pune plants for various plastic body parts, after bagging the order for bumpers and other plastic parts for the upcoming Chevrolet Spark, said Mr Rajiv Bakshi, Managing Director, Tata Auto Plastics. The company is already supplying various body parts to General Motors (GM) India for their mid-size sedan, Chevrolet Aveo and Tavera. GM India's recent announcement of a manufacturing facility at Talegaon, next to Pune, is a shot in the arm for TAPS, as TAPS's facility is close to GM's forthcoming facility.
Baroda unit
TAPS is about to set up an assembly unit at Baroda to supply bumper parts to GM India for the Chevrolet Aveo. It's a minimal investment of Rs 2 crore for an assembly unit, said Mr Bakshi. Besides catering to GM India, (the company is one of the Tier I suppliers for Tata Motors) it intends to put up a satellite plant next to Tata Motors's manufacturing facility in order to facilitate the `just in time' process for dashboard installation on the Indica. While GM and Tata Motors remain their old clients, the company has now bagged the Renault Logan order for dashboards. The plastic module will be supplied to Mahindra Renault plant in Nasik where the Logan would be manufactured.
