Plea for dismissal of SWC suit comes up

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata, Aug. 8

The application of Mr K.R. Chhabria, asking for dismissal of the suit of Shaw Wallace & Co Ltd (SWC), came up on Tuesday before Justice Banerjee of the Calcutta High Court. The suit is in relation to 25,000 shares of BDA Distilleries, a holding Company of SWC, being kept with Intrust Securities and Mercury Industries. Those shares could not be dealt with in view of pendency of the suit.

Now a separate application has been taken out for settlement of the shares but that cannot be done until the suit is dismissed. Nor can the shares now being kept with Intrust and Mercury be settled. The court directed the parties to file affidavits. The matter will appear after six weeks.
