AP analysing residues in colas

Following reports of pesticide residues in colas, the Andhra Pradesh Government has directed the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) to pick samples from all the districts and send them to CFTRI (Central Food Technology and Research Institute, Mysore) for analysis.
Discussing the issues with IPM officials here, the Minister for Health and Finance, Mr K. Rosaiah, asked the IPM to complete the process in a week's time.
As the IPM laboratory did not have a facility to analyse pesticide residues in drinks, the officials were going to install required equipment under a World Bank assisted programme.
CASES REGISTERED
In a press release, the IPM officials said the institute had initiated prosecution against some soft drink manufacturers as some samples did not conform to the PFA (Prevention of Food Adulteration) rules.
The institute pointed out that the State Government had decided to give directions to Government educational institutions not to allow sale of soft drinks on their premises as they did not contain any nutritional value, save sugar. Private educational institutions were also advised to discourage the sale of soft drinks.
