Hyderabad , Aug 13 People whose lands are being acquired in and around Hyderabad by the State Government can soon hope for a better compensation package. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today directed the officials concerned to work out a package. He has also decided to form a Cabinet sub-committee to propose the modalities. The land acquisition and allegations by opposition parties that farmers were getting very poor compensation has snowballed into a controversy, especially in the surrounding areas of the Capital, which is witnessing a real estate boom. The Chief Minister said that lands for various social and public purposes will necessarily have to be acquired. The proposed Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will see several important projects coming up to pave the way for rapid economic development of the State. The Government has said that land prices have increased abnormally in the vicinity of Hyderabad. As a measure of equity, it is examining the possibility of allotment of developed sites to farmers and individuals from whom the lands would be necessarily acquired, in addition to the compensation payable. Due regard will be paid to the remaining land left with the owner, the extent of land acquired, and other relevant factors while finalising the modalities by the sub-committee, Dr Reddy said after a review meeting today. The entire process of land acquisition should be transparent and be a role model for other States, an official release said.
