CBEC members' portfolios reallocated

The Government has made a reallocation of portfolios amongst the members of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). This move comes close on the heels of the appointment of two new members — Mr Devendra Dutt and Mr P.C. Jha — to the Board.

Sources in the Government said that Mr Devendra Dutt has been given the charge of customs, revenue intelligence and investigation. Mr P.C. Jha has got charge of central excise and service tax. Mr V.P. Singh was Member (Central Excise) before he was elevated as Chairman of the CBEC.

Mr Kailash Sethi, who was holding charge of computerisation, service tax, legal and judiciary, would now be in charge of legal and judicial matters as Member (Legal and Judicial).

Ms Chitra Saha, who was Member (Budget), would now be Member (Personnel and Administration). She would also look after the charge of Member (Budget and Computerisation) for the time being in addition to her own charge. After the portfolio rejig, the post of Member (Budget and Computerisation) is vacant.
