Mumbai , Aug. 17

The Maharashtra Government has approved the setting up of a company for the development of a multi-modal international airport at Nagpur.

A cargo hub and an international standard terminal would also be developed at the airport, the Chief Minister, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, said while addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Joint venture

The company would have participation from Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC) and Airports Authority of India (AAI). The share of MADC in the new company would be 51 per cent and AAI will hold the rest, Mr Deshmukh said.

The airport would be handed over to the new company for a period of 30 years by charging a nominal rate of Re 1 per year. The Centre would be in charge of airport security and air traffic control, he said.

Rain situation

The Chief Minister said 29 districts in Maharashtra have received over 100 per cent rainfall till August 16. All major rivers in the State are flowing near the danger mark. The fresh water lakes Tansa, Vaitarna, Tulsi, Surya and Modaksagar, which supply water to Mumbai city, are filled to their capacity.

Thane district that is closest to Mumbai has received over 140 per cent rainfall.

In Konkan division, Raigarh has received over 122 per cent rainfall, followed by Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg which have received 117 per cent and 81 per cent rainfall, respectively.

In Nashik division, Nandurbar district has received over 232 per cent rainfall, followed by Jalgaon district which received 214 per cent, Nashik district 198 per cent, Dhule 180 per cent and Ahmednagar 173 per cent.

In Pune division, Satara received 268 per cent, followed by Pune district at 208 per cent, Sangali 186 per cent, Kolhapur 154 per cent and Solapur at 93 per cent.

Other districts

In Aurangabad division, both Aurangabad and Hingoli districts received 154 per cent rainfall.

Parbhani received 141 per cent rainfall. Jalna, Nanded and Latur received 130 per cent, 122 per centand 113 per cent rainfall, respectively.

Beed received 98 per cent and Osmanabad 79 per cent rainfall.

In Amravati division, Buldhana received 163 per cent, Akola 159 per cent, Washim 146 per cent, Yavatmal 126 per cent and Amravati 115 per cent rainfall.

In Nagpur division, Naxal-infested Gadchiroli district received 120 per cent, Chandrapur 115 per cent, Gondia 107 per cent, Wardha 105 per cent, Nagpur 95 per cent and Bhandara 79 per cent rainfall.
