New Delhi , Aug. 21

The airports in Goa and Port Blair are all set for an upgrade with the Government approving the exchange of land owned by the defence forces in these two cities with the land owned by Airports Authority of India (AAI) at other cities around the country.

An official statement issued here on Monday points out that the exchange is to see 19.47 acres of land owned by the Defence forces in Goa and another 2.3 acres of land in Port Blair being handed over to the AAI. In exchange, 5.4 acres at Santa Cruz Mumbai, 3.678 acres at Kochi, 4.68 acres at Porbandar and 2.32 acres at Port Blair will be transferred to the Defence Forces.

An official statement issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation points out that as this was a mutual exchange of land between Ministry of Defence and AAI there was no financial implication. The transfer follows several rounds of talks between the Navy and the Civil Aviation authority.
