SHAH RUKH KHAN

Mumbai , Aug. 21

Jet Airways added a dash of glamour to its board by appointing Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan as a director on its board.

Shah Rukh Khan is the third film personality on Jet Airways board, the other two being lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar and producer-director Yash Chopra. While Javed has been on Jet's board since March 1993, Yash Chopra joined the board only in April this year.

Sources close to the company said Jet Airways would make use of Shah Rukh's immense popularity in the country to enhance its image. After the debacle of Jet-Sahara deal, the airline is keen on putting on a new face, which is one reason that prompted it to rope in Shah Rukh Khan on board, the sources say.

Shah Rukh, who is the brand ambassador for several products, is known for his consistency once he takes on a new assignment. The star is expected to play a bigger role in the company's development in the months to come, said sources.

The airline also appointed Dr Pierre J. Jeanniot, former Director-General (and currently Director-General Emeritus) of the International Air Transport Authority, as another director.

Incidentally, Sahara Group has Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai as the counsel director of Sahara India Pariwar.

The Jet Airways shares, which took a beating after it reported an Rs 45 crore loss in the first quarter of the current fiscal, started moving up in the past few weeks.

They ended 2.40 per cent higher at Rs 588.60 on the BSE on Monday.
