Go ahead for 46 new SEZs

The Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, has cleared 46 special economic zones (SEZ), based on the recommendations of the Board of Approvals (BoA) at its meeting held on August 8.

Of the 46 SEZs, prominent ones include Essar Jamnagar SEZ Developer Ltd (Gujarat), Infosys Technologies (Karnataka and Maharashtra), Wipro Ltd (Maharashtra), Cognizant Technology Solutions India Pvt Ltd (Tamil Nadu), HCL Technologies Ltd (Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh), Bata (West Bengal), Ansal Properties and Infrastructure Ltd (Haryana), Mahindra Gesco Developers Ltd (Maharashtra), Unitech Real Estate Project Ltd (Kerala), NIIT Technologies Ltd (Uttar Pradesh) and Enfield Exports Ltd (West Bengal).

An official release stated that the sectors covered include multi-products, engineering goods, IT/ITES and biotechnology. In all 150 SEZs have been approved so far.
