Airlines Government - Policy Indian passport holders allowed to travel by ITP charter flights Our Bureau
An ITP includes a round trip for a pre-determined period for one or several pre-determined places charging an inclusive consolidated price for the airfare for all the segments, hotel accommodation and other ground arrangement services such as visit to tourist places.
New Delhi , Aug. 22 The Government has allowed Indian passport holders to travel by Inclusive Tour Packages (ITP) operated charter flights. This forms part of the revised and liberalised guidelines for operations of tourist charter flights to and from India that was released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently. The policy now allows ITP charter flights to be operated to any airport in the country without any limitation on the frequency of flights or the size of the aircraft provided customs and immigration facilities are available at the airport where the flight is being operated. An ITP includes a round trip for a pre-determined period for one or several pre-determined places charging an inclusive consolidated price for the airfare for all the segments, hotel accommodation and other ground arrangement services such as visit to tourist places. In addition, charter flights can also be operated to other airports where customs and immigration facilities would be made available either on ad hoc or seasonal basis by the authorities on the tour operator's request. Those flying on a tourist charter flight would be allowed to fly into and out of the country using the services of the same charter operator. However, in case of an emergency, the DGCA may permit tourists arriving on charter flights to leave on a scheduled flight or vice-versa. The latest Government guidelines also allow a tourist using the ITP to arrive in one city and depart from another as long as the airport from which the passenger is leaving has customs and immigration facilities. Besides, the charter operator may also transport the tourists from one city to another within the country as part of the package. While the ITP charter flight would not be permitted for purposes other than carrying bonafide ITP tourists, it would be allowed to carry cargo under the `open sky policy.'
