New Projects States - Tamil Nadu TNPL plans Rs 650-cr expansion Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 23 Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) plans to expand its production capacity with an investment of Rs 650 crore. The Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, said that TNPL would add a new paper machine with a capacity of 1.2 lakh tonnes a year. Its plant in Karur district has capacity to manufacture 2.3 lakh tonnes of printing and writing paper. Replying to the debate on the demand for grants to the Industries Department, he said that in the pipeline was also a Rs 30-crore investment to add 6.25 MWof wind power generation capacity with five new windmills. In 2005-06 the company increased its wind power generation capacity to 28 MW from 21.75 MW. TNPL is currently implementing a Rs 565-crore Mill Development Plan slated for completion by March 2007. Under this plan its in-house pulping capacity will increase to 800 tonnes a day, from 520 tonnes, using an environment-friendly, chlorine-free process. Its production capacity will also increase to 2.45 lakh tonnes a year. The expansion in pulping capacity will generate over 120 tonnes of surplus pulp, which would initially be sold in the market. With the additional one lakh tonnes the pulp would be used internally. The funding for the Rs 650-crore expansion would come from internal accruals and debt.
