Bangalore, Aug 24

BEA Systems, a provider of enterprise infrastructure software, plans to step up investments and increase the headcount at its India R&D Centre at Bangalore. Currently, about 200 of the 1,100 R&D engineers of BEA are contributing to its product development from Bangalore, which the company plans to increase to over 500 soon, said Mr Alfred Chuang, Chairman and CEO.

R & D facility

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating BEA's new facility, Mr Chuang said the company has seen tremendous growth in India even as service-oriented architecture (SOA) gained momentum as the technology approach that enables business transformation and optimisation.

Mr Chuang said the Bangalore facility would be developed into the largest R&D facility outside the US in the coming years. The company also has R&D facilities in Sweden, Argentina, China and Korea. The expanded operations in Bangalore included plans to base key Web logic integration (WLI) development. The WLI was a key component of the unified SOA platform from BEA, he added.

Solutions centre

BEA was also considering establishment of a solutions centre in Bangalore to focus on supporting the company's long-term expansion plans in the country and Asia Pacific region. BEA has clocked a growth of over 50 per cent in the Indian market, Mr Chuang said. BEA's customers in India included Life Insurance Corporation, Tata Teleservices, National Stock Exchange, Indian Railways and ICICI.

Further, Mr Chuang said, the company planned to have tie-up with reputed technological institutions and Universities to train students and recruit them. Initially it would take students as interns for six months or one year and based on their performance offer job opportunities.
