Spot rubber suffers setback

Aravindan

Kottayam , Aug 25

Spot rubber prices retreated further lacking solid support from the consuming sectors. Hopes on enhanced arrivals following bright weather kept the covering groups and purchase agents rather inactive. There were scattered buying on sheet rubber at lower levels.

RSS 4 declined to Rs 90.00 and Rs 90.50 a kg from Rs 91.00 and Rs 91.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi. The sentiments remained dull as rubber futures turned lower at Tokyo Commodity Exchange, dragged down by a decline in spot month August by 7.8 Yen to 236.6 Yen a kg on its day of expiry.

Futures dull

The domestic rubber futures followed suit on NMCE recording moderate losses in all contracts. The September delivery was quoted at Rs 89.25 (Rs 90.63), October at Rs 86.56 (Rs 87.57), November at Rs 86.30 (Rs 87.29) and December at Rs 86.20 (Rs 87.48) per kg for RSS 4.

Physical rates (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 90 (Rs 91); RSS-5: Rs 88 (Rs 88.50); ungraded: Rs 85 (Rs 85.50); ISNR 20: Rs 88 (Rs 89.50) and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 72.09 (Rs 72.61).
