India emerges major sourcing hub for the company

Hyderabad, Aug. 25

For global automotive major DaimlerChrysler, India has emerged as one of the major sourcing hubs for auto components even as the company is set to target executives in India Inc.

The Managing Director and CEO of DaimlerChrysler India, Dr Wilfried Aulbur, said that India has emerged as second largest sourcing hub for the company with strong partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the South Asia. This fits well into the company's philosophy of sourcing parts from the best available option.

While stating that this was growing by about 20 per cent per annum, he refrained from giving any details in terms of volume.

The IT-centric southern market contributes to about 30 per cent of the company's sales in India and the first half too was witness to good sales with the launch of new range of cars in the S and E Class segments, which were launched simultaneously in India.

However, majority of the sales have come through its C Class offering, he explained. Answering queries after the launch of a new showroom in Hyderabad, Dr Aubur said DiamlerChrysler and BMW are global competitors and that they would continue to offer cars in this growing market. We are not too concerned about their setting up a manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu. India is shining and there is a large pool of professionals in the IT segment. All these years, we were focussing only on individual car buyers, we would now focus on this market, he said.
