GOING SLOW: The hand-pulled rickshaw of Kolkata is one of the oldest modes of transport in the world today. The Left Front Government has banned this mode of transport.

At present, the city has more than 40,000 licensed rickshaw pullers and most of them are from the neighbouring Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. A rehabilitation scheme for the rickshaw pullers is being planned.
