The Hindu Business Line : `Coir Utsav' begins in Kochi

Coir Utsav 2006, a six-day mega event organised by Coir Board to bring coir and allied products under one roof, has begun at the Marine Drive here to coincide with the Onam festival period.

Various organisations in the State such as Coirfed, Kerala State Coir Corporation, Coconut Development Board, Karnataka State Coir Federation, National Small Industries Corporation, exporters, manufacturers and so on, have set up stalls for displaying their products.

The display of Coirply, which is a wood substitute made out of coir is the major attraction. The other products exhibited are doors, window frames, partition boards, tray, plates and so on, made out of coir.

MOBILE OUTLET

Ms Minnie Mathew, Chairman, Coconut Development Board, has also flagged off a mobile sales outlet of the Coir Board at the function.

Mr A.C. Jose, Chairman, Coir Board, said that reasonably priced coir products would be made available to the public through the mobile outlet. The mobile unit, equipped with coir doormats, matting of different designs, will visit the thickly populated residential areas of the city and suburbs.

Mr Feby Varghese, Managing Director, Kerala State Coir Corporation; and Mr Abdul Gafoor Haji, Chairman, Coirfed, also attended the function.
