Air Cargo BAWC gets investment nod
BRITISH AIRWAYS World Cargo is to invest £20 million on airport infrastructure in Heathrow by 2008.
British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has received approval of the British Airways board for an investment of 20 million pounds in the run-up to the opening of Terminal 5 of the Heathrow Airport in March 2008. The approval is being seen as a clear signal from the British Airways that it recognises the important role BAWC will be required to play in the efficient handling of cargo at Terminal 5. One of the first major expenditures will be the acquisition of 70 new tugs and 484 pallet trailers designed to handle the inclines in the new Terminal 5 tunnels and underpasses, according to BAWC sources. However, as the sources point out, the purchase of these new vehicles is just one of the number of steps that BAWC will be announcing in the run-up to the March 2008 opening.
