Information Technology IVRS, SMS facility at Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal Our Bureau
Kochi , Sept. 3 India Gateway Terminal (IGT) has launched Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), SMS and web tracking of containers at the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal on Friday for the benefit of port users. The Kochi Port Chairman, Mr N. Ramachandran, launched the IVRS service and the SMS facility was inaugurated by Capt Subhash Kumar, Deputy Chairman of the port. Mr Ramachandran described the new initiative of IGT as a major value addition by leveraging IT tool and said that it would definitely give transparency and raise the comfort level of port users. Mr D. D. Ingty, Commissioner, Cochin Customs, said that the Customs would shortly introduce risk management system at Kochi to assess the risk of containers, which is high or low. The introduction of such system would enable speedy clearance of cargo from the port. Mr Suresh Joseph, General Manager, IGT, said that launching of IVRS and SMS facility is one among the various steps taken by the IGT management to ensure transparency and establish meaningful communication with their customers. Customers can seek information on vessel status and container details through the IVRS by dialling 4080100 or by sending SMS to 9895704440.
