New Products & Services Godrej & Boyce to double frost-free refrigerator manufacturing capacity Our Bureau

New Delhi , Sept. 5 Godrej and Boyce is planning to double its frost-free refrigerator manufacturing capacity by augmenting its plant in Shirwal near Pune with an investment of around Rs 100 crore. "We already have refrigerator manufacturing capacity near Pune. With the growth in consumerism, we are planning to double our existing frost-free capacity from 3.5 lakh units to seven lakh units," said Mr George Menezes, Chief Operating Officer, Appliance Division, Godrej & Boyce, on Tuesday. The investment will be made through internal accrual and the new unit at the company's existing set up at Shirwal will be operational in the next one year.
Another facility
Apart from refrigerators, the Shirwal facility manufactures washing machines. The company has another facility at Mohali for manufacture of DC (direct cool) refrigerators. Its current market share for refrigerators is around 20 per cent.
`EON' range
The company launched its `EON' range of frost-free refrigerators that comes with features such as bigger vegetable trays, deodoriser and zinc oxide protection with 10-year rust free warranty. The capacity of the two models launched ranges from 243-342 litre and is priced between Rs 15,500 and Rs 26,000. The company would spend around five per cent of its turnover on advertising and marketing and another five per cent on R&D, said Mr Menezes. The appliance division of Godrej is targeting a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore in 2006-07 against a turnover of Rs 750 crore in the last fiscal.
