Tax revenues of VAT implementing States up 26 pc in April-July

Tax revenues of the value added tax (VAT) implementing States have recorded a 26.02 per cent growth in the first four months of the current fiscal to touch Rs 36,484 crore compared with Rs 28,951 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Thirty States and Union Territories have so far implemented State-level VAT.
The three non-VAT implementing States and Union Territory Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Uttar Pradesh recorded a 22.7 per cent increase in tax revenues during April-July 2006 to Rs 9,051 crore compared with Rs 7,379 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Tax revenues of some of the major VAT implementing States in April-July are: Delhi Rs 2,187 crore (Rs 1,736 crore); Maharashtra Rs 7,171 crore (Rs 5,615 crore); Haryana Rs 1,773 crore (Rs 1,455 crore); Kerala Rs 2,410 crore (Rs 1,973 crore); Karnataka Rs 3,151 crore (Rs 2,691 crore); Punjab Rs 1,656 crore (Rs 1,457 crore); Andhra Pradesh Rs 4,658 crore (Rs 3,413 crore); West Bengal Rs 1,596 crore (Rs 1,412 crore); Gujarat Rs 3,679 crore (Rs 2,788 crore); Madhya Pradesh Rs 1,217 crore (Rs 943 crore) and Rajasthan Rs 1,917 crore (Rs 1,507 crore).
