Making Kolkata job-ready

The academy will target B-School aspirants and job-seekers

La Academia Hermes has developed the training modules for B-School aspirants and job-seekers with inputs from people having domain expertise

Kolkata , Sept. 6

It is a very different kind of an academy and certainly the first-of-its-kind in Eastern India. Named after the Greek God of commerce, communication and wit, La Academia Hermes aims to make Kolkata "job-ready." The brainchild of Mr Nilanjan Bose, a gold medallist from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and Mr Subhadip Mukherjee, an alumnus of Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar, La Academia Hermes will have among its target audience B-School aspirants appearing for the Common Admission Test (CAT) and job-seekers.

Mr Subhadip says: "We found that most of those appearing for CAT or tests and interviews for jobs were more focused on the elimination process. According to us, the real tests are in the group discussions and interviews. As such we want to be an academy that will address niche domain needs. We shall provide training to B-School aspirants and job-seekers with special focus on communication skills, interpersonal skills, linguistics, group dynamics, behavioural sciences, etc."

Mr Nilanjan adds: "Most of the B-School aspirants and those who appear for tests for jobs are too focused on the formal or written part of the examinations. They have no time to sharpen skills that are required for success in group discussions and personal interviews. For example, very often interviewees are asked to tell the interviewing panel something about themselves. Most of them fumble to find an answer. Our training will provide such people with the differentiator".

La Academia Hermes has developed the training modules for B-School aspirants and job-seekers with inputs from people having domain expertise. For B-School aspirants, the training session is twice-a-week spread over three months even as that for job-seekers is twice-a-week sessions for two months. Sessions will also be devoted to development of basic linguistic skills and mock interviews, with video recordings of the latter analysed and improvisations suggested.
