Agri-Biz & Commodities - Rubber
Spot rubber stays static

Aravindan

Kottayam , Sept. 8

The physical rubber prices were almost steady on Friday. The session turned rather inactive in the absence of quantity buyers and sellers as major overseas markets were also in a mixed trend.

RSS 4 closed unchanged at Rs 93 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi as on Thursday. The price of the grade is expected to be range bound till a clear trend is obtained from the international scene.

Futures weak

The rubber futures continued to rule weak on NMCE. A late recovery in TOCOM possibly on short covering after a weak take off failed to cheer the domestic players, sources said.

The September contract was quoted at Rs 86 (Rs 86.50), October contract at Rs 79 (Rs 79.14), November at Rs 78.10 (Rs 79.03) and December contract at Rs 79.00 (Rs 80.04) per kg for RSS 4.

The trading volumes stood at 762 lots with 305 lots in September, 323 lots in October, 38 lots in November and 96 lots in December till midday.

The October contract for RSS 3 improved to 211.6 Yen (Rs 84.07) from 209 Yen a kg at TOCOM.

The spot rubber rates per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 83 (Rs 83); RSS-5: Rs 80.00 (Rs 80); ungraded: Rs 77.50 (Rs 78); ISNR 20: Rs 79 (RS 79.50) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 68.40 (Rs 68.40).
