Bangalore Sept. 8 Telecom giant Nortel said Friday that it would increase its procurement from India and China with the Asian telecom market growing big. Mr John B. Haydon, Nortel's Chief Procurement Officer, who had recently shifted to Hong Kong from Canada, told press conference here that besides services, Nortel was aiming to increase product procurement as well as research and development outsourcing.
Nortel-Wipro tie-up
Nortel is celebrating 15 years of partnership with Wipro Technologies in developing and supporting next generation products for service provider and enterprise customers worldwide. Wipro currently provides end-to-end design, system integration, consulting, software release management and support for Nortel's carrier and enterprise product lines as well as a multi-site, geographically dispersed engineering services delivery model. Stating that Wipro was one of the top 100 partners for Nortel, Mr Haydon, who declined to comment on the financials of the partnership, said Wipro was Nortel's customer and vice versa. Besides, the two have joined together to take up projects directly and Bharati telecom was one such example. Nortel was managing the technology part of Bharati's networks. Wipro's Product Engineering Solutions President, Mr Ramesh Emani, said Nortel was one of the top 10 customers of Wipro. More than 1,000 Wiproites were working for Nortel projects at present, he added. Karnataka's IT & BT secretary, Mr Anup Pujari, said the state government was planning to institute awards for intellectual property in both information technology and bio-technology sectors. The government is expected to come out with further details in the near future, he said.
