ASW system inducted into Navy

Visakhapatnam, Sept. 9

The integrated anti-submarine warfare equipment (ASW), developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory here, was inducted into the Navy here. At a function held on board INS Ranjit, Vice-Admiral Sureesh Mehta, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command and the Chief of the Naval Staff designate, received the equipment from Dr A. Sivathanu Pillai, the Chief Controller, Defence R&D. Dr Pillai said on the occasion that the induction of ASW equipment paved the way for integration of indigenous weapons and decoy systems.Dr V. Bhujanga Rao, the Director of NSTL here, said the cost of the indigenously developed ASW complex was Rs 4 crore against Rs 30 crore for a similar imported system. Bharat Electronics, Bangalore, which manufactured the system, received orders from the Navy for two more such systems. Vice-Admiral Sureesh Mehta, congratulated the research team for its efforts.
