Bangalore , Sept. 11 Sun Microsystems India plans to expand its direct presence in the country to about 20 cities from the existing five by June. India is among the fastest growing geographies for Sun, where the company has clocked a 29 per cent growth for the year-ended June 2006, said Mr M.B. Sam, Director, Marketing, Sun Microsystems India Pvt LtdSun Microsystems India was recently made a GEM (geographically established market) by the parent company. Becoming a GEM would mean that Sun Microsystems India would have a separate profit and loss account. But, the India revenues would continue to get consolidated with the company's Asia Pacific revenues.
Sun has demonstrated growth across all key segments of the market including servers, storage, software, solutions and services, he said. Traditional verticals such as BFSI, telecom continue to grow, while the company has seen increased traction in several verticals such as retail, healthcare, government, education among others. Though Sun, like other IT MNCs does not declare its India revenues, market sources estimate it to exceed Rs 1,000 crore.
Recently, Sun launched a control centre in Chennai to provide alerts to global customers on any impending problem in the IT systems and provide solutions for the same. The centre will begin with 100 people and scale to about 300 in a year's time.
