Rates for all varieties of CTC leaf slipped

Coimbatore , Sept. 11

The total tea offerings at the sale no 36 improved marginally to 4.93 lakh kg from the previous week's offer of 4.51 lakh kg. The leaf grades accounted for 2.22 lakh kg of the offered volumes and the balance was of the dust. The market was by and large dearer.

The demand for the Orthodox leaf was generally good, quoting dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 4 a kg. CIS exporters absorbed the offered volumes of the high grown Nilgiris larger and well-made brokens. Major blenders operated on well-made medium brokens albeit selectively.

Few exporters and internal traders were active on orthodox dust.

CTC leaf

While the demand was fair, the rates for all varieties of the CTC leaf slipped downwards. There were limited enquiries for bright liquoring teas from upcountry buyers. HLL operated selectively in better medium varieties. The medium bolder grades were steady to easier, while the medium brokens were irregular, quoting lower by Rs 2 to Rs 3 per kg.

Smaller brokens and fannings and those suitable for the buyers operating for Pakistan were lower by Re 1 to Rs 2, whereas, the others declined further.

CTC dusts opened easier by Re 1 to Rs 3 and thereafter with progress of sale, the response improved gradually on medium/plainer varieties. HLL showed interest only on select medium varieties. Exporters and internal traders lent fair support. AVT and Indcoserve were selective on good liquoring teas.

The orthodox high grown was quoting around Rs 69 and Rs 78, while the medium Nilgiris teas between Rs 48 and Rs 61 per kg. Quality CTC teas fetched anywhere between Rs 48 and Rs 58 per kg. Good CTC dust hovered around Rs 61 and Rs 65.
