Spot rubber slips further

Aravindan

Kottayam , Sept. 11

The domestic spot rubber surrendered further on Monday. The market seemed to be reacting in tune with the global trend, which showed prolonged weakness reflecting the dried-up buying interest from major consuming countries and softening oil futures.

RSS 4, the sheet rubber moved down to Rs 82 a kg from Rs 83 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi. Supply concerns following the resumption of rains failed to hold the prices at early levels while slightly improved selling from dealers and growers hammered the counters. Latex 60 per cent continued to rule weak on import rumours.

Futures decline

On NMCE, the rubber futures declined on fresh selling coupled with long liquidation from disappointed traders to limit losses. The September contract was quoted at Rs 84.00 (Rs 85.91), October contract at Rs 76.75 (Rs 79.33), November contract at Rs 76.50 (Rs 78.70) and December contract at Rs 77.00 (Rs 79.04) per kg for RSS 4.

Physical prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: Rs 82.00 (Rs 83.00); RSS-5: Rs 78.50 (Rs 80.00); Ungraded: Rs 77.00 (Rs 77.50); ISNR 20: Rs 78.50 (Rs 79.00) and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 66.30 (Rs 67.35).
