For parents, this may prove to be a lucky break. No longer would they have to struggle with their kids' tutorials. The Gurgaon-based Total Learning Sources Ltd (TLSL) is soon opening a call centre where school children can phone in for tutorial help, irrespective of which board of education their school pursues. And this anytime, anywhere help would be available to kids across the globe, not just in the country.

"We are working on a call centre for school kids that would cater to education from all school boards, including International Baccalaureate and K12 boards based schools across the world," said Mr Neeraj Bhatnagar, Director, TLSL.

So, be it a math rider or a science query that needs to be addressed by a 6th grader or a 9th grader, the call centre will make solutions available for each one. "A call by a student will be filtered on the basis of board, class and subject and then routed to the tutor concerned, working for the call centre, who may be in any part of the world," said Mr Bhatnagar.

The company will initially start with 100 teachers at its call centre and scale up as demand increases. The service would come with a subscription fee, which has not been decided on yet.

Other products, targeted largely at schools and school children, to be launched shortly include Sparkling Scholar (SS) — a content repository for teachers to choose from for classroom teaching.

The technology entails conducting the class with the help of computers. SS would also enable coordination as well as performance tracking by the stakeholders in a school, namely, principal, teachers, students and parents.

SS would again be offered for the CBSE and the ICSE schools and international boards as well. "We have signed up with Britannica of the UK and two other companies, one based in Poland and the other in Chennai for developing the content. We will soon tie up with an American company for development of content for the K12 board," said Mr Bhatnagar.

The company is targeting sales to about 50 schools with about 1,000 students each in the next one year. The cost of the SS programme would be Rs 150-200 per month per child.
