A misFortune?

A colleague privy to a conversation on the cocktail circuit in the capital realised the infrastructure blips organisers face when planning major events in India. Fortune, the internationally reputed magazine, has planned a summit of CEOs for the first time in India, in New Delhi in October 2007, in keeping with India's growing might in the economic world. While that has gladdened Indian hearts, what has zapped the organisers is the sheer logistics problems involved. As of now, 300 CEOs of top global companies are expected to land in the capital — but the problem is that presidential suites available in the city's best hotels can probably accommodate less than 10 per cent of them.

Most top honchos are also expected to fly in on their private jets. The organisers are said to be scratching their heads trying to figure out where to park these 300 jets. The CEOs are likely to be accompanied by their spouses — that means organising 300 separate programmes for them. Last heard, the organisers are still hopeful that they would be able to work out things by the time the event takes place.
