Keane to scale up operations in India

V. Rishi Kumar

Plans to recruit 7,000 people over next two to three years

Hyderabad , Sept.15

Keane Inc, the $1 billion IT services provider, is set to scale up India operations and add about 7,000 people over the next two to three years, taking its India headcount to about 10,000 across four delivery centres.

The company is planning to invest about $100 million and enhance its business process outsourcing operations in India, with significant part of this to be based out of Hyderabad centre.

Expanding services

The Managing Director of Keane India, Mr Sukant Srivastava, told Business line that the company has about 800 people in its BPO subsidiary, the company has grown after an acquisition. It holds about 86 per cent stake in the BPO.

The company is in the process of expanding both its IT services and BPO operations. Mr Srivastava said that the company is in negotiations with the State Government to acquire land to set up a technology campus near Hyderabad. It has recently signed up with Intelligroup to provide enterprise services.

Asked if there was any plan to pick up stake in Intelligroup, Mr Srivastava answered in the negative. The company has undertaken a major business transformation, which meant creating business streams on global services lines rather than based on geographical lines in the areas of application development and management. This is complimented by testing and architectural services.

Inducting more

As a part of the expansion project, the company plans to induct about 600 people at Hyderabad during the year and is in the process of establishing a NoC (network operations centre) to serve the global customers.

The company employs 3,000 people in India, which works out to about 30 per cent of the total global workforce. It is proposed to change this mix to 60 per cent in India and 40 per cent in other global locations over the next three years, he said.
