`Cut health insurance premium rate'

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Sept. 18

The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called the revised rate of health insurance premium for citizens above 50 years as `abnormal' and sought a reasonable rate. The chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, in a statement here, citing a news item in Business Line, dated September 15 on the revision upward in the premium rate of health insurance, said that while one would have to concede that medical expenses had risen substantially, the proposed revision was abnormally high. He said, for citizens in the age group between 56 and 60, the premium revision stipulated had been raised from Rs 2,322 to Rs 3,483; for those between 61 and 70, from Rs 2,322 to Rs 5,196 and for those between 70 and above, from Rs 2,784 to Rs 6,960.
