`Take a leaf out of LCA project'

Our Bureau,

Bangalore , Sept. 19

Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project that defied all odds to becoming a reality was an example worth emulating by project managers to make any venture a successful proposition.

Stating this at a conference organised jointly by the Project Management Institute and the Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCIC), Dr. Kota Harinarayana, former programme director and chief designer of LCA, said: "If you wish your country to be among powerful nations than develop stronger technology. Though Saudi Arabia has sound GDP than the US, it is the technology that makes the difference and not money," he said.

Dr Harinarayna asked the project managers to take a leaf out of LCA project, as it was the second indigenous fighter to be developed in the country after 25 years.

Planning vital

"Project managers should learn from past mistakes and they should not make the same mistakes. They should think and plan. When LCA was conceived, only one per cent believed that it would be a reality. When it took to skies, only 50 per cent believed it. Now more and more people believe it. Those countries that produce fighters are in the forefront. India has recently joined this list. If you are not in the game, you can't become powerful," said Dr Harinarayana.
