Plans to expand its gas stove range and introduce tabletop wet grinders

Chennai , Sept. 21

Maya Appliances Private Ltd, owner of the Preethi brand of mixer grinders, plans to expand its gasstove range and introduce tabletop wet grinders.

The company has commissioned a Rs 10-crore plant in Himachal Pradesh to produce gas stoves and wet grinders besides coffee maker machines and mixer grinders, Mr Vijay Srinivasan, Director-Marketing, Maya Appliances Private Ltd, said. The company imports gas stove components and assembles them at its Chennai unit. The Himachal Pradesh unit will also assemble gas stoves. Both units will start producing wet grinders by October 2007, said Mr Srinivasan.

The company launched a new range of mixer grinders called `Preethi Blue Leaf' on Thursday. Two models priced at about Rs 3,600 and Rs 3,900 will be sold through distributors. The models come with a super extractor unit (for making juices), `grind and store' container attachments and an ISI-approved 750-W silent motor.

The `Preethi Blue Leaf' range will be manufactured in Chennai (for the south Indian market) and Himachal Pradesh (for the upcountry markets). The company will spend about Rs 3 crore in marketing the product in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana, besides the south Indian market.

The company also plans to export the range to Indonesia, Sri Lanka, USA, Canada and West Asia through its distribution network. About 10 per cent of the company's revenues come from exports, said Mr Srinivasan. The company reported sales of about Rs 72 crore last year and is targeting about Rs 100 crore this year. Preethi has about 32 per cent market share in the organised mixer grinder market, he said.
