AT THE BIGGEST MARKET: Cattle waiting to be sold at the Ninth Mile weekly market on the outskirts of Guwahati City on Friday. This is the biggest cattle market in the entire North-East, where the cattle is brought from as far as Bihar and other parts of Assam.

Cattle transaction averages 800-1,000 a day and the market caters to States such as Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram besides Bhutan and Bangladesh for their meat needs.
