The Kerala Government is planning to hold local investors' meets in all districts in the State, the Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem, said.
Replying to questions in the State Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister said the investors' meets held recently in Kannur and Kochi had received good response. Similar meets would be held in Kozhikode and Malappuram soon.
He also informed the House that an exhibition-cum-convention centre would be established in Kochi.
INVESTMENTS
The Law Minister, Mr M. Vijayakumar, on behalf of the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, said in reply to a question that the LDF Government was able to attract investments to the tune of Rs 4, 600 crore within four months of assuming office. The Government's policy is to make the State investor-friendly, he added.
He said the ban on colas reflected the Government's social commitment and that he did not share the view that it would come in the way of investments in the State.
SMART CITY TALKS
The Minister expressed the hope that the proposed Smart City in Kochi would materialise soon. Discussions were on with Dubai Internet City, the promoter of the project, and all issues, including providing land for the project, would be sorted out.
He, however, pointed out that the project would be allowed only after safeguarding the interests of the State and the people. The Minister said the process of acquiring land for the 500-acre Techno City proposed near Thiruvananthpuram was progressing. Besides, the Technopark would be expanded by acquiring an additional 100 acres.
