Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences to be launched today

Sept. 26:
Ms Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of UPA's National Advisory Council, will inaugurate the Rs 125-crore Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences at Putlampalli village in Kadapa district on Wednesday.
The hospital would house a medical college, nursing college, 750-bed teaching hospital and staff quarters.
A Government release said the institute would be evolved into a medical research centre of national repute with the status of deemed university.
The institute has already begun operations with a first batch intake of 149 students.
DENTAL COLLEGE
Ms Gandhi would lay foundation stone for a dental college abutting the institute with a cost of Rs 22 crore. In the first phase, the Government would spend Rs 12 crore. The college, which was targeted to produce 100 dentists a year, would begin academic programme in the next academic year.
She would release water to 50,000 acres of new ayacut from Sri Pothuluri Veera Brahmendra Swamy Reservoir at Brahmamgari Matham.
The release said she would also inaugurate Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC) in the district. Kadapa was one of the four pilot districts selected for implementing the JKCthat were aimed at producing manpower to the IT industry.
