Education States - Kerala IIM-K annual finance seminar from today Our Bureau
Kochi Sept. 29 , The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) will organise its annual finance seminar, Arthanomics, on September 30 and October 1. The theme of the seminar is `Going Long on India - Opportunities and Risks.'
PARTNERS
Reliance Money, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, will be the platinum sponsor of the event, while the print media partner will be the Business Line and Indiainfoline, the online media partner. The growth rate of the Indian economy has averaged above eight per cent over the past three years and future expectations remain buoyant. Economic reforms, strong role played by the private sector and the rising domestic consumption have been key drivers of this growth, a press release from the Institute said. Global players have time and again underscored that the fundamentals of the Indian economy are robust.
DISCUSSIONS
Arthanomics 2006 aims to enhance the understanding of the factors critical to high growth through discussion on topics such as `Role of policy in financing infrastructural needs', `Capital account convertibility', `Enhancing India's export competitiveness', `Hedge Funds and FII's - spectre or a real threat?' and `Basel II and consolidation in the Indian Banking sector'.
SPEAKERS
The speakers who will address the seminar include Mr Vijaya Sarathi, Senior Vice-President, Thomas Weisel International, Mr Krishnakumar Variar, Director of Risk Management Team, Crisil, Mr Varun Gupta, Executive Manager (Valuations), Deloitte FAS, and Mr Gurmeet M. Singh, Product Head - Commodities, Reliance Money Ltd.
Bazaar trading
As part of Arthanomics, the finance interest group at IIM-K, in association with Reliance Money, ADAG, presents a real time offshore trading game "Off$hoRe Bazaar". The game has already commenced and has witnessed a record number of registrations from premier B-schools of the country. Reliance Money is using this as a pilot run for their trading portal that will allow Indian retail investors to trade in offshore instruments. Participating teams in "Off$hoRe Bazaar" would be competing against each other by deploying their trading skills to maximise their virtual profits.
CASH PRIZES
Virtual financial instruments are bought and sold in accordance with participant's interpretations of price movements on the trading platform. At the completion of the game, the top teams will be identified on the basis of the absolute profits and the winning teams will be awarded cash prizes totalling Rs 40,000, the release said.
