BSM meet suggestions Technical expert of the individual oleoresin company should visit Moscow for demonstration of preparation and for closer ties Food technologist from CFTRI/defence food research laboratory for identifying different applications/uses of spice oleoresin
Kochi , Oct. 6 The Spices Board and the Indian oleoresin industry have identified the Russian food processing industry as a potential buyer of Indian spice oils and oleoresins. This has come to the fore during discussions at the buyer-seller meet (BSM) organised by the Indian Embassy in Moscow recently as part of the "World Food Moscow 2006", which was attended by a delegation led by the Chairman, Spices Board, Mr V.J. Kurien, comprising eight spices exporters and Mr S. Kannan, Director (Marketing) of the Board. During the BSM, major spices processing companies in Moscow had a detailed interaction on the use of spice oils and oleoresins and specific advantages to the meat, fish and poultry industries, Mr Kannan told Business Line.
Food industry
Indian oleoresin industry, he said, has also assured the food processing industries in Moscow to provide the required technical knowledge on preparing various blends for different applications. Russian market has achieved a noticeable change in the food industry particularly in the processed food segment and was moving towards the system and style of Germany, Italy and France, he pointed out. A detailed market study focusing on the market potential for spice oils, oleoresins, spice blends and ground spices would be undertaken by the Spices Board for understanding appropriate market promotional activities through the industry.
Suggestions
Though the food processing industry in general is convinced about the uses and benefits of spice oils and oleoresins, due to lack of technical support, preparation of different oleoresin blends for different uses is not taking place.
a) Technical expert of the individual oleoresin company should visit Moscow for a period of 30 days along with samples for (i) spot demonstration on preparation of blends and their uses, (ii) educating the local industries' production/processing in-charge on the preparation and different use of spice oils and oleoresin, (iii) establish closer working relationship with at least four food processing industries for market expansion.
b) Food technologist from CFTRI/defence food research laboratory may be identified for undertaking industry-sponsored projects on different applications/uses of spice oleoresin. The proposed research project may be co-ordinated by the Spices Board's laboratory for quality evaluation, he said.
Realising its importance and potential, three exporters, who participated in the World Food Moscow in September 2006, are also participating in "Ingredients Russia 2006'" during November 2006, he added.
