Hyderabad, Oct. 18

Gansan Artistes Syndicate has opened an art gallery and studio with a difference. The Gansan studio trains women from self-help groups (SHGs) in traditional arts and thereby empowers them with a new career path. The Director Finance of Gansan Artistes Syndicate, Dr Vasavi Samyukta, said Gansan imparts training in Tanjore art free of cost and enables the women to earn more than Rs 4,000 per month. It plans to extend its work at Nagole village near here to more villages. The gallery located at Mahendra Hills in Hyderabad features over 1,000 Tanjore paintings and more than 4,000 other artworks. The prices range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2 lakh. Dr Samyukta said the artworks would be marketed through strategic tie-ups.
