Budget 2007

This is with reference to "Challenges before Chidambaram" (Business Line, October 18): It has been rightly pointed out that the Finance Minister's ingenuity in Budget preparation will tested in his handling of the private-public partnership scheme.

There is another question that the UPA Government has not effectively confronted — relationship with the Left.

Only when that happens will issues like private-public partnership be solved.

The Government should stand its ground and the Left should be more accepting of other points of view.

K. Parameswaran

Coimbatore

The Finance Minister should rise to the challenges and present a Budget with a vision for the future.

Farmer suicides, the recent outbreak of chikungunya and dengue, the prevalence of child labour and reports of children dying due to lack of nutritious food should be issues that the Minister should consider while deciding on priority areas in the next Budget.

A. Jacob Sahayam
