To strengthen Kerry's Asian network

Chennai , Oct. 23

Kerry Logistics, a Hong Kong-based logistics services company, has forayed into India by acquiring 51 per cent shares of Reliable Freight Forwarders, Chennai. Reliable Freight will be renamed Kerry Reliable Logistics Pvt Ltd.

With this, Kerry Logistics' Asian network is strengthened to help global and regional customers to rise to the challenges of their supply chain in Asia, the company said in its Web Site.

60 years in China

Part of the Kuok Group, Kerry Logistics has over 60 years of development in China and Asia. And, with greater focus on China its business interests include logistics, properties, hotels, media, shipping, air cargo carrier and insurance.

Its brands include Shangri-La Hotels, South China Morning Post and Bangkok Post, Kerry Properties, Pacific Carriers Ltd Jerneh Insurance, Arawana, according to information available in its Web Site.

Kerry Logistics offers its clients a comprehensive network of offices across China and throughout Asia Pacific. It operates in 145 cities globally, 13 countries worldwide and serves 1,100 cities throughout mainland China.

The company's vision is "Asia based, China focus, Global network".

Established in 1996, Reliable Freight, a freight forwarding company, has branch offices in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Tirupur and Tuticorin.

When contacted, officials of Reliable Freight declined to provide details on the sale of shares. Officials of Kerry Logistics also did not respond to Business Line's e-mail query on the deal.

A press release issued by Reliable Freight last week only talked about joint venture agreement with Kerry Logistics and not about the sale of shares. The release also said the new company will be called Kerry Reliable Logistics in India and Kerry Logistics in the Far East.

JV to help both

The joint venture would help Kerry Logistics gain a foothold in India using Reliable's market presence and operations. Similarly, Kerry Logistics willintroduce Reliable Freight to the Far East. Both companies will gain due to synergy of infrastructure and market presence in their respective locations, the release said.

Reliable Freight offers supply chain management solutions and provides comprehensive logistics services in India, including international sea and air freight forwarding, local transportation with self-operated trucking fleets, inland container depots, container freight stations, shipping agency, contract and project logistics.
