Power CESC Q2 net rises 21% Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 31 CESC Ltd has registered a 21 per cent increase in net profit in the second quarter of 2006-07 at Rs 69 crore (Rs 57 crore). Total income during this period increased to Rs 697 crore (Rs 688 crore), a growth of six per cent. Profit before tax increased to Rs 79 crore (Rs 63 crore). Mr Sanjiv Goenka, Vice-Chairman of CESC, told Business Line that the company managed to register this growth both in topline and bottomline despite a reduction in tariff rates. However, CESC's power purchase bill in the last quarter has increased to Rs 92 crore (Rs 77 crore). "We had to purchase from outside to ensure that there is no disruption in service during the festive season," Mr Goenka said. The company further said that the overall plant load factor has increased by two percentage points. Moreover, the company has continued to record a decline in transmission and distribution losses.
