Alliances & Joint Ventures Rolls-Royce, HAL to expand tie-up ambit Our Bureau
Bangalore , Nov. 7 Rolls-Royce and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd plan to extend their 50-year tie-up for engine component design and manufacturing in India, as per a new MoU signed by them. The MoU signed in Bangalore on Sunday can now include more strategic initiatives in India, advanced engineering, design, manufacture and assembly of components for Rolls-Royce engines across aerospace segments. Rolls-Royce will also open a supply chain office at the HAL facilities, according to a release. Mr Scott Crislip, President of Helicopters & Small Gas Turbine Engines for Rolls-Royce, said, "This MoU expands the longstanding relationship between two leaders in the aerospace industry." HAL, which has been licence-producing engines since 1956, became a member of the Rolls-Royce global supply chain in 2003. It makes the Rolls-Royce Adour engine under licence for the IAF's Jaguar fighter. Under another agreement, the Adour 871 will be manufactured by HAL and will power the Hawk advanced jet trainer being acquired by IAF. The new MoU was signed between Rolls-Royce and HAL during a ceremony that also included a separate MoU-signing between HAL and Bell Helicopter Textron. Rolls-Royce and Bell Helicopter Textron are joint contenders in a proposal to the Indian Army for its Shen helicopter programme: it involves the purchase of 197 helicopters and a significant number of RR engines that would be manufactured under licence by HAL.
