Kochi , Nov. 15 Technopolis, the first IT park in the private sector in Kerala promoted by Muthoot Pappachan Group, has commenced operations at the Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ). Set up at an investment of Rs 45 crore, the park has a total built-up area of about 3.55-lakh sq ft constructed in a plot of 2.5 acres at the CSEZ. The group is the first co-developer within a Government SEZ in the country and Technolpolis will become a role model for the scheme under SEZ Act, Mr George Muthoot, Managing Director, said at a press meet. Wipro and Sutherland have commenced operations in the park and companies such as Cognizant and Williams Lea have occupied space in the building to set up units, he added. Technopolis has been designed taking into consideration the requirements of the IT industry and the location of the park on the Airport Seaport Highway offers high visibility.
Expansion plans
Mr George pointed out that the group had also plans to set up a Technopolis 2 in Kochi considering the expansion plans of the existing tenants as well as the emergence of Kerala as one of the most preferred IT destinations in the country. It has requested for land within CSEZ and Infopark for the second phase of expansion. The infrastructure division of the group is currently holding discussion with a US-based IT company to set up a `built to suit' campus here, he said. Quoting the official figures released by CSEZ, Mr George said Technolpolis would generate an export revenue of Rs 1,500 crore by the fifth year of operation and is also expected to generate employment opportunities for 4,000 potential candidates. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Thomas Muthoot, Director, said the group had also chalked out various other business plans, which included an IT park and residential complex near airport, budget hotels and support facilities for IT park in Kakkanad. The investment for all these projects would be to the tune of Rs 60 crore. It has acquired 8 acres of land near the Cochin International Airport for the park.
