Internet Industry & Economy - Education States - Kerala Malayalam Web site on education Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 17 The Kerala State IT Mission has launched Padavukal.org, a Web site in Malayalam with information on education and careers. Launching the site and a Padavukal CD today, the Kerala Education Minister, Mr M.A. Baby, said that the Web site and the CD are part of an endeavour to ensure that the benefits of information and communication technology (ICT) reach all sections of society in Kerala. The State Government is making a concerted effort to ensure that the digital divide is bridged and that all segments of society in Kerala have access to the latest developments in ICT.
`MORE EFFORTS NEEDED'
However, Kerala needs to take more measures to ensure that it is able to make full use of the benefits of ICT, he added. The Padavukal Web site and CD are an extension of the Kerala State IT Mission's efforts to create useful content in Malayalam.
DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE BASE
The site is possibly the first digital knowledgebase in Malayalam on the Internet, said Mr K.R. Jyothilal, Director, Kerala State IT Mission. More content will be added to the site, he stated. The site has over 600 pages of multimedia content on a wide range of topics such as courses of study, different professions, a directory of educational institutions, distance learning options, studying abroad, a list of recruitment agencies, entrance exams, essays on career development, self employment, finance options including scholarships and loans, aptitude tests and so on. To view the content on the Web site, users must have Flash Player 8.0 installed on their computers.
