New Delhi , Nov. 18 The President of Afghanistan, Mr Hamid Karzai, assured the Indian business community to make the visa regime easier and promised to look seriously into the demand for visa-on-arrival. He also invited the Indian businessmen to conduct profitable business in his country. Addressing the Regional Business Conference on Afghanistan, organised jointly by CII, FICCI, and Assocham on Saturday, Mr Karzai said, "Afghanistan is best destination for Indian trade and industry, not just because you can make money there, but also because it is easy for you to register and do business." Mr Karzai said that during the last four-and-a-half years, Afghan trade with the South Asian region, including China had grown from $100 million to $2.5 billion and was still growing. This, he said, has a strong indication of the deepening of trade and economic engagement of businesses on both sides. Afghanistan, he said, has witnessed a sea change in the business and economic environment and "we remain committed to cutting the red tape and the controls that still persist." He invited Indian business to see and experience for themselves and not be misled by media on terrorist attacks on Afghan soil. "The free press is not interested in the success stories of the improvement in the telecom and road network in the country. It does not talk about how well private airlines are doing in the country, and how banks have grown in number and size of operations," he pointed out.
